70 Chiffchaff

No unfortunately I didn't see 70 Chiffchaff on the patch today but I did hear at least two calling backwards and forwards to each other whilst talking to PC Wanderings in the Brockwell centre car park this afternoon.

You can't count HEARING them! They must be seen! I was at the east end of Crosland Way at 7am this morning, near wher the path comes out onto Crowhall Lane and SAW two chasing each other through the trees.

My (and many others), general rule is once you've seen the bird you can count it on call but not if you haven't seen the bird before.
E.g it was a few year until I could count Bittern as a lifer because I hadn't seen one but I had heard a Bittern Booming before.
Now if I heard a Booming Bittern I could count it even if I didn't see it.

One thing you can't do is tick captive birds, e.g. Stakeford Egyptian Goose, but I don't like telling people what they can and can't do it's your hobby do it your way :)
